Becoming a Member Is Easy!!! Membership is available at any/all of three
different levels: local, or chapter; state; and national membership. LOCAL: SHHL-Sacramento chapter dues are $12.00 per year, payable and due by February 1st of each year. This entitles one to receive the monthly newsletter that includes the happenings and events that are planned for chapter members in the months ahead. Also, monthly guest speakers talk on a wide range of topics (chosen by the members themselves) to enable them to cope/adjust to their impairment in such a way as to enrich their daily lives by sharing experiences and events with those in similar situations. In other words, the chapter members act as a built-in support group and safety network for its members (and guests, when present). STATE; The state chapter, called SHHH-CA (Self Help for Hard of Hearing people in California) dues is $10.00 per year, payable at the time one pays their chapter dues. One is entitled to receive the monthly state chapter newsletter, “The Californian”, which covers topics of interest to all chapter members throughout the vast state of California with its 16 local chapters: 5 in northern California and 11 in Southern California. The SHHH-CA chapter holds biannual conventions which all chapter members are encouraged to attend; the sites are alternated between northern and southern California sites to allow the hosting chapter duties to be alternated between the two regions of the state. NATIONAL: SHHH-NATIONAL (or simply “National” as it is usually referred to) dues are $ 25.00 on a yearly basis and due at the same time one pays their local and state annual dues. The national headquarters is the only branch that has paid staff and is located in Bethesda. MD. Membership entitles one to receive the bi-monthly publication, “Hearing Loss”, which is considered to be one the world’s most widely-read consumer journals in the vast field of Hearing Loss. The “national” SHHH agency holds yearly conventions which are held in various cities across the nation. These meetings are NOT to be missed: educational, yes (very), but are also more importantly. an excellent opportunity to “network” and develop friendships with those with hearing loss from every state, including both Alaska and Hawaii, in addition to those from other countries around the world.
